Backdoor Cut

noun / verbbasketball term

A cut behind an overplaying defender toward the basket.

Backdoor cuts punish defenders who deny passing lanes or stand too high. Timing matters because cutting into occupied paint can hurt spacing.

Used in a sentence

“The corner made a backdoor cut when the lock denied the pass.”
